Thanks to everyone who completed the recent Project Evaluation.
A summary of results will be published soon, and any comments on these are welcome.
G Scene magazine published its ‘Community’ issue in October, and plans its’ ‘HIV’ issue in November. Lunch Positive features in these two issues. The forthcoming November issue includes a piece which has been put together with the help of our members.
Volunteers Wanted!
We’re looking for a group of volunteers who would be able to provide ‘general help’ for one or two Fridays a month, from 12 noon until 4pm. This involves helping dish wash and packing away at the end of the day. Volunteers break for lunch, and travel expenses are paid.
If you’re interested, please let us know, and please pass on the word to anyone else.
Joining us for lunch in October are – THT, Gary from CRI, Caroline from Sussex Beacon; and Sami from the Carers Centre. Visits from ther organisations are very informal, and our guests are available to talk to members, offering any support or advice.

Getting Together…
On Friday 30th September, we’ll be having a special big buffet & community day.
All the volunteers will be joining together with members over our opening hours, and having a much deserved break from the usual duties!
Lunch will be £1 on this date.
World AIDS Day Thoughts & Ideas…
As in previous years, Lunch Positive is getting involved in the World AIDS Day event
in December, and anyone who would like to talk about making a contribution to a piece in G Scene, a film showing, or has some ideas about experiences & how to share these with the wider community (can be anonymous) is invited to get together after lunch on the 30th.
HIV means different things to different people, so everyone’s experiences are valuable.

Volunteers Wanted
We’re looking for volunteers to help in the kitchen for two weeks each month with food preparation and housekeeping.
If you are interested, or you know someone who would like to help, please look at the ‘Volunteering’ page of the website, and complete the contact form.
Community Event Help Needed
From time to time we help out with preparing and selling food at local community events. These are important sources of fund raising, and also help raise the profile of the service.
Any spare time you have would be greatly appreciated, and it’s all a bit of good fun! If you’d like to help out with this, please let us know, everyone would really benefit from the extra help

At last nights Golden Handbags ceremony, Lunch Positive received a special award for ‘Services to Brighton’s LGBT Community’.
The founder of the awards, James Ledward gave a lengthy and very moving narrative of our history, our special contribution as a charitable group provided entirely as volunteers; a community organisation which sees a large number of people, and which has a grassroots approach to supporting LGBT and HIV communities.
Community organisations and volunteers often don’t easily accept praise and thanks for the work we do; but especially on these occasions I hope we’ll all feel able. We all work very hard, and we all care about what we do and how it helps others.
The winner of the Voluntary/HIV category was THT South, with Sussex Beacon as first runner up, both organisations which support people with HIV.
Congratulations and best wishes to the them, and to the other groups with whom we were all ‘runners up’; and who carry out incredibly valuable work – MIND Out (LGBT Mental Health), Allsorts (LGBT Youth), Switchboard (LGBT advice), Women’s Centre, Clare Project (Trans), ME Society, Spectrum (LGBT Forum).
